Club Update March 17 2023

Vice President Appointed
Congratulations to Dale McInnes who has stepped up to the plate and taken on the role of Vice-President. Dale has a range of skills that will prove useful in this position. He will shadow Gordon and support all members of the Executive Committee in their duties.

BPC Member Defibrillator and CPR Workshop
As part of the OH&S framework it is proposed that Club members have an opportunity to learn how to use a defibrillator.

We have access to a defibrillator that is located in the BEBC building on the wall to the left of the external doors one usually walks through to access the bar area.

A local provider will guide attendees through the use of the defibrillator machine and provide instruction on basic CPR using “Re-sus Annie” mannequins.

This workshop is available to all Club members and extended family as well.

Location: BEBC Clubhouse.

Proposed dates:

Thursday March 23 or Friday March 31

Thursday Format

6.00pm BBQ (gratis)
6.30pm Workshop

Friday Format

5.00pm Workshop commences
Pizza ordered to arrive at 7.00pm
Pétanque play to follow.

Interested members please follow the link and indicate your preference of date.

Please complete your response asap (Ergo, over the next few days.) The most popular day will become the confirmed date.

Appropriate Footwear Whilst Playing
It is expected that all Club members wear closed toe and heel footwear whenever playing. This prevents the distraction and discomfort of gravel flicking under the feet and offers some protection if a boule falls directly on  the foot or toes. This is a requirement that is part of the PFA approach to the game and anyone such as a guest who plays in sandals or thongs does so at their own risk.

February 2023 Ballarat Mixed Doubles Review
It was felt that the recent Ballarat Pétanque Club Mixed Doubles Tournament was a great success on so many levels. Once again various Club members happily pitched in to ready the pistes and complete a range of different organisational and catering tasks with everything set to go in a timely fashion. The presence of the coffee van was considered a bonus and should be a feature each tournament.

Upon reflection, the inclusion of Mixed meant fewer teams competed and it was determined that in future the event will be an Open Doubles allowing mixed and single gender teams to enter.

Dove Mixed Doubles Sunday March 12, 2023 Outcome
Winning isn’t everything but its nice when it happens. It might have only been the 3rd Division, aka the Consolante, but Amanda and Don came first, winning all three games in the play offs. Two lovely bottles of wine is better than nada. Overall they finished 17th. The field for the day was filled with top quality players, so not making the Principale was not a surprise.  Cheryl and Ken were so unlucky in their games with the final end determining the outcome in multiple games. They  finished the long 7 hours of game time under a hot sun in 23rd place. (out of 28 teams, so still quite a few below them.) Ken Mason noted that many of the players he encountered were prepared to share strategies and provide advice… post game of course.

We love to boule-around... three times a week we can be found throwing boules at 300 Bradshaw St Golden Point 3350. (Ballarat East Bowling Club kindly shares its grounds and clubhouse facilities.) Tuesday and Sunday social play sessions commence at 1.00pm all year round. The Friday social game also commences at 1.00pm for much of the year but moves to a 5.00pm start in early December until the end of Daylight Savings.

We are fortunate to have a very active membership who love to play pétanque and so, if life doesn't get in the way of pétanque, you will find us "on the piste" on a Tuesday, Friday and a Sunday. You are welcome to join us three times  as a guest at no charge. (Its a try before you buy concept.) After that, you make a decision to pay for a membership @ $65 per year or pay $5.00 each time you visit.

😄
